Description
Wine production at Château de Brézé dates back to the 15th century. In those days, grapes were pressed in the famous Salle des Pressoirs and aged in the Salle des Foudres, in the Château's underground cellars, until 1976!
The old troglodytic presses bear witness to the ancestral production of the estate's wines, which were so appreciated by King René d'Anjou and the great poet Joachim de Bellay, who dedicated these few verses to him: "Son Nectar nous assaisonne, Nectar nous le donne, Mon doux vignoble Brézéen ... ".
The white wines of Brézé became the reputation of this vineyard, and were subsequently favored by the kings of the greatest European courts. Count Bernard De Colbert and his wife Charlotte De Dreux Brézé perpetuated this historic family tradition. Today, his son Jean and daughter-in-law Karine De Colbert produce Saumur and Saumur-Champigny appellation wines, to the delight of lovers of fine Anjou wines.
The Château de Brézé vineyard estate produces its wines on a site steeped in history, in the heart of the Saumur region.
The Château's vineyards cover some 10 hectares, planted with Chenin for the white wines and Cabernet Franc for the reds. It produces Saumur Rosé, Saumur Blanc, Saumur-Champigny and Crémant de Loire. The Château's viticultural and winemaking techniques are based on sustainability and respect for the environment.
The soil is worked to a shallow depth, so as not to alter its horizons. No chemical weedkillers are used.
Depending on the terroir, grass may be planted in every other row or on the entire plot. The aim is to maintain biodiversity in the vineyard, a source of balance and plant health.
This philosophy enables them to get the best out of their vines, allowing them to evolve in a balanced, healthy ecosystem.
"Good grapes make good wine!
This philosophy is also reflected in the winery, where he seeks to retain all the authenticity of our terroirs. He limits his interventions in the cellar to preserve the integrity of his grapes and wines.
Numerous events and wine tourism activities are offered throughout the year.
